Kloeckner Metals, a distributor of steel and nonferrous metals, will construct a new light gauge flat rolled metal processing facility in Alabama. The 100,000-square-foot facility will be built inside the campus of ThyssenKrupp's world-class carbon flat rolled mill located in Calvert, Alabama. Initially, the center will provide slitting services and will later extend its processes to include blanking, multi-blanking and cut-to-length. The facility will commence operations in 2013.
In addition to the construction, the company will focus on creating a supreme workforce to operate the flat rolled processing center. The Alabama processing facility can be expanded in the future to more than 400,000 square feet, based on requirement. It will be the company’s second location in the state. Kloeckner Metals owns a 78,000-square-foot service facility in Bessemer, Alabama.
Russ Delaney, President of Kloeckner Metals’ Flat Rolled Group, noted that there will be three major factors for the new facility and they include toll-processing for the flat rolled mill; entry into the automotive processing business; and growth of the company’s value-added flat-rolled business.
Bill Partalis, CEO of Kloeckner Metals, stated that the expansion of flat rolled processing facilities signifies the company’s continuing commitment to its customers in the region to meet the increasing demand for processed flat rolled metal products in the Southeast.
