New Pulp Based Material Replaces Plastic in Mobile Phone Microscope

UPM ForMi biocomposite, a new pulp-based material has now replaced plastic, which was utilized as a microscope accessory for mobile phones. KeepLoop, a Finnish technology company, has tested the sustainable UPM ForMi material utilized in the manufacturing of mobile phone microscope and found that the material is extremely challenging.

The founder of KeepLoop, Jaakko Raukola said that the new biocomposite material is suitable for the injection moulding production. The cover material is warmer and softer than the conventional PC/ABS polymer plastic.

UPM has to essentially cooperate with KeepLoop as the mobile phone microscope may provide a new platform to UPM ForMi in electronics and optics industries.

Stefan Fors, UPM ForMi business director, stated that UPM ForMi biocomposite is an important new launch and has a wide application range, which is a good indication for the product development. The material has been already used by customers for manufacturing furniture and in various utility goods. The product also meets the requirements of the electronic industry.

The KeepLoop mobile phone microscope is developed based on Finnish innovations and optoelectronic technology. KeepLoop introduced the mobile phone microscope to the global markets at Drupa conference, the largest graphic industry international conference that took place in May at Düsseldorf, Germany.

The Technical Research Centre of Finland has developed a technology based on which the microscope was designed. The microscope is applicable for quality assurance program in the graphic industry, the coating industry, safe presswork applications and the paper industry. It can be used in geological research field, health sector, educational field and leisure activities. It can also be used in all camera mobile phones and tablet computers.
