KEMET, a provider of high performance capacitance solutions, has added first-to-market 35 and 50 volt products to its T540 and T541 Polymer Commercial-Off-the-Shelf (COTS) Series of tantalum capacitors.
The 35 and 50 volt Polymer COTS solutions are ideal for specific high reliability applications, including switch mode power supply, point of load power supply and radar pulse capacitor.
Dr. Philip Lessner, SVP, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Scientist of KEMET, stated that the T540 and T541 capacitors have low voltage derating capability, exceptional power dissipating ability and ESR's as low as 6 mW, which result in considerably lower capacitance roll-off at lower temperatures and higher frequencies. In addition, the products offer ripple current capability about three times higher than similar MnO2 devices. All these features enable the use of smaller or up to 90% fewer tantalum capacitors to aid in functioning of devices, concluded Lessner.
The T540 and T541 series belongs to the KEMET Organic Capacitor (KO-CAP) product portfolio. These polymer COTS capacitors are used in various markets, including telecommunicaton, aerospace, defense, medical, lighting, industrial and energy. KO-CAPs are polymer cathode products that are made of a Ta2O5 dielectric, a Ta anode and a conductive organic polymer, which is used as a replacement for traditional MnO2 as the capacitor's cathode plate. These tantalum capacitors are offered with a tin lead frame finish, standard or low ESR levels and surge current testing options. KO-CAP, when integrated with a multiple anode design, allows the T541 series of tantalum COTS capacitors to deliver the lowest ESR in the industry.
