Al-Jubail Petrochemical, a 50:50 joint venture between Saudi Basic Industries and Exxon Chemical Arabia, has awarded a contract to Technip to provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services to a facility manufacturing halobutyl, a superior-quality synthetic rubber polymer. The halobutyl facility is situated in Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
ExxonMobil Chemical’s affiliate is Exxon Chemical Arabia. This project comes under the Saudi Elastomers Program initiated by KEMYA to establish a state-of-the-art specialty elastomers facility in order to offer products for local markets, Asia and the Middle East. This new plant will manufacture 110,000 tons of rubber every year utilizing ExxonMobil licensed technology.
Technip’s operating center located in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates will implement the contract. The Senior Vice President for Middle East Region at Technip, Arturo Grimaldi stated that the company is happy to work on the development of this state-of-the-art plant based on an advanced technology. This project perfectly fits the strategic goals of Saudi Arabia. This contract strengthens Technip’s dominance in the petrochemical market as well as in Saudi Arabia, where the company has been servicing for over three decades.
