Jacobs Engineering Group has reported that Braskem, a major producer of thermoplastic resin in the Americas, has awarded a contract to Jacobs Engineering Group to offer professional technical services at recently acquired propylene splitter assets at the Marcus Hook Refinery complex near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In late June 2012, Braskem purchased propylene splitter assets in the refinery complex spanning 781 acres. The value of the contract was not revealed. Jacobs Engineering Group’s operations located in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, and in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, are anticipated to execute the technical services.
Jacobs Engineering Group’s initial scope of work comprises retrofitting the newly acquired assets so that Braskem will able to process propylene more efficiently for utilization in its nearby polypropylene facility.
According to Bob Pragada, who serves as Vice President at Jacobs Group, the company is happy to provide professional technical services for Braskem’s propylene splitter assets. Pennsylvania officials have looked for identifying potential applications for the refinery since last December. Braskem's purchase and capital investment is believed to be the first step in reusing the complex as a versatile energy processing facility.
