Harsco, a global provider of engineered products and industrial services, has secured a 7-year contract from Metkore Alloys & Industries for recovery of ferrochrome in India. The contract is worth approximately $15 million and the alloy recovery services are scheduled to begin in May 2013.
Harsco is anticipated to recover about 40,000 tons of ferrochrome metal from stainless steel making slag, both for local use and for export markets. This is the third major contract of Harsco’s Metals & Minerals division in India andis the first in the Indian ferrochrome alloy industry.
Ferrochrome is a key ingredient in the manufacture of stainless steel. Harsco continues to grow in the steel sector via several contracts, including a $500 million valued 25-year agreement signed with China-based TISCO in 2011. The company’s long-term experience on similar kind of ferro alloy recovery operations enables it to offer an advanced green and cleaner solution to Metkore, as well as to the community. In the last 15 years, Harsco has recovered over 700,000 t of ferro alloys from operations in South Africa and Brazil.
Galdino Claro, Metals & Minerals group’s CEO, remarked that the contract from Metkore is another testament of their opportunities to grow further with innovative environmental solutions and resource recovery technologies that deliver value-added benefits.
