KEMET, a manufacturer of ceramic, tantalum, film, aluminum, electrolytic and paper capacitors has launched a new series of high energy polymer tantalum capacitors labeled as the T545 series. The surface mount capacitors are ideal for application in GPS systems, wireless cards and solid state drives.
KEMET’s Chief Executive Officer, Per Loof stated that the new series represents an innovative development that is characterized by an all solid state construction with high capacitance, low profile and low Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR).
Dr. Philip Lessner, Chief Technology Officer, Chief Scientist and Senior Vice President at KEMET, said that the low profile of the series enables the devices to fit in any solid state drive application and also stated that the robustness of the capacitors were established by subjecting the devices to 100% voltage aging and thermal shock . The potential markets for the new series include lighting, defence, medical, computer, telecommunication, aerospace and transportation.
The new series of capacitors are affordably-priced. The T545 series complement the T520 and TSM series from KEMET. They belong to the KEMET Organic Capacitor (KO-CAP) product family. Equipped with a Tantalum anode and a dielectric made of Tantalum Pentaoxide, the KO-CAP products come with a tin lead leadframe finish with an option for testing surge current.
