ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe has started the new apprentice training year on September 3, 2012. As of September 1, 2012, the company is hiring 315 new apprentices for 20 different jobs, bringing its total own apprentice count to approximately 1,140.
Moreover, ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe is training nearly 300 apprentices from different companies on a contract basis. The company provides apprenticeship training at its facilities located in Finnentrop, Kreuztal-Eichen, Hagen-Hohenlimburg, Dortmund, Bochum and Duisburg.
At Duisburg site, 191 new apprentices will be employed of which 134 will undergo industrial/technical training and remaining 57 will undergo commercial apprenticeships. The Hagen-Hohenlimburg will employ 67 new apprentices of whom 64 will assume industrial/technical apprenticeships and 3 will undergo commercial apprenticeships. Moreover, ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe conducts training for local firms at this site. In Dortmund, 36 young people will be employed, of which 33 will be deployed for industrial/technical training and 3 for commercial training.
At the Siegerland site, there are 33 new apprentices in total, of which 25 are industrial/technical apprentices and 8 are commercial apprentices. The Finnentrop site will employ two commercial and four industrial/technical apprentices. The normal duration of apprenticeships is 3-3.5 years. However, based on performance, the duration can be reduced to 2.5-3 years.
ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe is also conducting an introductory week for all apprentices to facilitate the shifting from school life to working life. In this initiation course, the newcomers will get the chance to know each other, their team leaders, trainers, and learn about their new work environment through interviews and self-prepared presentations. Health and safety are the key area of focus of this course. Social activities, barbecue evenings and city tours are also part of this well-known program.
