OSIMPLANT Launches New Cervical Disc Prosthesis Called ARAMIS

OSIMPLANT, a company that employs novel technology to provide products and services for the healthcare sector, has launched a new cervical disc prosthesis labeled as ARAMIS.

The ARAMIS Cervical Disc Prosthesis from OSIMPLANT

The unique aspect of this European Conformity (CE)-certified device is that it is the first such prosthetic device to employ MOTIS polymer made by Invibio Biomaterial Solutions as its inlay material. The MOTIS polymer is reinforced with carbon fiber. Invibio launched the Polyether ether ketone (PEEK)-based, carbon-reinforced biomaterial for use in medical devices almost 10 years ago. The successful incorporation has made these materials the popular choice for articulating devices in spinal, finger and knees. The MOTIS-lined inlay of ARAMIS enhances surgeon and patient benefits by greatly reducing the wear between endplates and inlay, thereby extending the implant’s service life.

The ARAMIS device is designed to counter debilitating diseases of the spine such as herniated nucleus pulposus and Spondylosis and to reduce pain experienced by patients. The device is expected to sustain physiological movement like lateral bending, rotation and flexion and to re-establish anatomical balance. OSIMPLANT mulled the use of conventional materials such as ceramic and polyethylene for the inlay during the design phase of ARAMIS. However, MOTIS was chosen owing to its superior mechanical strength, wear performance and resistance to creep. The validated benefits of MOTIS comprise enhanced load bearing capability and very low rates of wear against ceramic and metal counterfaces.

According to Mr Özcan Karadag, General Manager at OSIMPLANT, the company’s association with Invibio has been marked by successful collaboration in which Invibio has provided regulatory and technical assistance and biomaterial expertise.
