Praxair, an American company dealing in industrial gases, has inked a 15-year agreement for the procurement of carbon dioxide from Honeywell Resins and Chemicals.
Carbon dioxide is generated as a by-product in the caprolactam manufacturing facility of Honeywell located at Hopewell in Virginia. Praxair is setting up a new plant at the Honeywell site. The plant is scheduled to commence operations in the third quarter of 2013. The carbon dioxide procured from Honeywell will be purified and liquefied at this facility of Praxair. The planned daily output capacity of the carbon dioxide processing plant is 450 tons. The liquid carbon dioxide has primary applications in food processing and freezing and beverage processing.
Kevin Foti, Vice President of the industrial gases business of Praxair for the eastern region in the United States expressed pleasure at the partnership forged with Honeywell and said that the Hopewell facility will equip Praxair to capitalize on the opportunities for growth available in the Mid-Atlantic states. Qamar Bhatia, Vice President and General Manager of Honeywell Resins and Chemicals, also expressed his happiness at the relationship formed with Praxair and said that the arrangement will help Honeywell to drastically reduce their carbon dioxide emission and would improve their productivity.
Honeywell Resins and Chemicals is one of the leading manufacturers of nylon resin, caprolactam, a critical raw material employed for the production of nylon, chemical intermediates and ammonium sulfate fertilizer. Praxair manufactures, processes and sells atmospheric and specialty gases and high performance coatings worldwide. The company is deemed to be the largest industrial gas producer in the Americas.
