MeadWestvaco Corporation, a global leader in packaging and packaging solutions is showcasing its full lineup of packaging solutions for the consumer electronics industry at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas from Jan. 8-11, 2012 in Room S218.
The theme of the company’s hospitality lounge is “(R)evolution,” highlighting the evolution of innovative packaging for the consumer electronics industry that encourages sales and can even deter theft. MWV’s hospitality lounge is staged like a high-end consumer electronics boutique for visitors to experience MWV’s packaging solutions firsthand.
At this year’s CES, MWV is launching a revolutionary security packaging system, in partnership with ProTeqt Technologies, which leverages digital technology to deter theft and boost sales. The system comprises a small lock placed on high-value consumer electronics products, which renders the product non-functional until it is digitally disabled by the retail associate at checkout. The system removes the thieves’ motivation to steal, while at the same time does not impact the consumers’ interaction with the product.
Both brands and retailers are challenged with balancing the need for security and an engaging in-store shopping experience. This is particularly difficult for consumer electronics as these often small, high-value products are prime targets for theft. Current retail security measures, such as alarms, plastic boxes and glass encasements are inconvenient and intrusive, restricting shoppers’ interaction with merchandise and decreasing the likelihood of purchase.
“CES is full of design and innovation, providing the perfect forum to introduce an industry-first solution that provides retailers and brand owners with the security and product protection they need, while maintaining consumer engagement with products in-store,” says Jeff Kellogg, vice president of Consumer Electronics and Security Packaging Systems with MWV. “For many years, MWV has addressed the needs of the consumer electronics industry through innovative packaging solutions; we are continuing this legacy with our partnership with ProTeqt Technologies.”
This revolutionary new security solution is one of three packaging-based security solutions MWV will be demonstrating to CES attendees. Natralock®, the company’s easy-to-open, paperboard-based alternative to traditional plastic clamshell packaging, is a CE industry packaging staple because it promotes product security without sacrificing product visibility. The company will also showcase its award-winning Natralock with Siren ® Technology packaging solution, which uses an on-package alarm to provide three levels of security for retailers.
CES attendees can meet the MWV team and experience MWV’s packaging solutions in the company’s “Revolutionary Road” hospitality lounge. Please visit MWV's CES 2013 website for a preview.
