Royal DSM, a global science-based company active in health, nutrition and materials, today announces that its Business Group DSM Engineering Plastics has opened an office in the San Francisco Bay area to support the consumer electronics business and the rapid growth of this segment.
DSM is leading the way in high-performance engineering plastics for the electrical and electronics sector and offers a complete portfolio of solutions for smart phones, tablets and ultrabooks. The placement of a team in this location will bring DSM’s extensive research and development capabilities in this market closer to their supplier base.
Richard Pieters, President of DSM Engineering Plastics – Americas, commented, “We are making this move to give DSM a hub in the fastest-growing design area and be close to the designers and engineers of electronics, completing the circle as we already have a solid footprint in the manufacturing base. This places us closer to our West Coast customers, helping to drive early involvement in product design, leading to shorter development cycles and more efficient manufacturing processes.”
Pieters went on to note that this new Bay Area location will include account management, engineering and application development, design and innovation roles. With the consumer electronics business growing rapidly, he said, “We are excited that this move will allow us to more efficiently support our customers in the area and help them focus on finding solutions for greener, smarter and smaller electronics.”
The West Coast team will focus primarily on global electronics OEMs and brand owners operating in the region, in addition to which the center also will serve as a hub to support the electric-vehicle and sports markets.
The new office is located in San Mateo Gateway at 1810 Gateway Drive, Suite 320, San Mateo, CA 94404. DSM Engineering Plastics maintains its Americas headquarters in Troy, Michigan.
