Hitachi Chemical (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi Chemical Co., Ltd., has completed a production base for epoxy molding compounds for semiconductors in Suzhou Industrial Park to reinforce its semiconductor-related materials business in China. The new facility was established with capital of about 2.5 billion yen, and has a production capacity of 6,000 tons per year.
In the Chinese semiconductor industry, many companies from Japan, the U.S. and Europe have established their manufacturing sites dealing with fabrication processing operation. Recently, some leading semiconductor companies from those countries and Korea have built large-scale productions one after another, dealing with consistent operations from wafer process to fabrication process. In addition, many Chinese companies are also entering the semiconductor manufacturing business. Along with these movement, the Chinese semiconductor industry is growing rapidly and further it is expected that demands for environmentally friendly epoxy molding compounds are increasing. In these circumstances surrounding semiconductor manufacturers, we have completed a new production base for epoxy molding compounds to meet the increasing demand in China. We are going to start producing epoxy molding materials for all applications, but mainly for logic applications including environmentally friendly types which are in particular in high demand. We will immediately establish a system that will satisfy our customers’ needs in delivery and technical services, and steadily proceed with operations necessary to apply for accreditation of the materials.
Hitachi Chemical Group is presently manufacturing epoxy molding compounds for semiconductors in Japan and Malaysia. With the addition of our new production base in China, the group has established a production capacity of about 30,000 tons per year. We intend to raise our current 20% (our estimate) share in the Chinese market to more than 40%, thus gaining the top share. Based on the new production base, we will accelerate efforts to expand our electronics materials business in China.
