Alcan Inc. announced today that Alcan Packaging Mexico, S.A. de C.V. has acquired the packaging assets and business of Recubrimientos y Laminaciones de Papel, S.A. de C.V. (Relapasa), of Monterrey, Mexico. The asset purchase includes a plant in Monterrey (Nuevo León). Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The Monterrey site will provide an expanded manufacturing platform to accelerate Alcan’s food and specialty flexible packaging growth in the Mexican domestic market," said Christel Bories, President and Chief Executive Officer, Alcan Packaging.

"In addition to growing our business in the region, this also brings an experienced manufacturing workforce and strong customer relationships."
Relapasa employs approximately 250 people and will have 2005 sales of almost US$22 million. With this acquisition, Alcan Packaging Mexico will have approximately 1,250 employees at three flexible packaging sites, including plants in Tlaquepaque (Jalisco) and Zacapu (Michoacan). Offering cast multi-layer film, prepress, printing and laminating, Alcan Packaging Mexico is a leader in the Mexican food segment, serving primarily the bakery, salty snacks, confectionery, cookies, beverages and personal care markets.
