Ausmelt Signs Contract with Korea Zinc for a New Zinc Residue Smelter

Ausmelt Limited has signed a contract with Korea Zinc Co. Ltd (Korea Zinc) for the construction of two new Ausmelt technology furnaces at its zinc production facilities at Onsan in Korea. Korea Zinc already operates eight Ausmelt technology furnaces at Onsan treating a range of zinc slags and residues as well as secondary lead and copper materials.

Under a pre-existing agreement with Korea Zinc, Ausmelt will only receive a technology licensing fee under the new contract.
Korea Zinc is the world’s largest producer of zinc metal and is widely recognised as a low-cost zinc producer with a reputation for successfully adopting leading-edge technologies. The two new furnaces will be built at Onsan to recover lead and zinc from up to 120,000 tonnes per annum of zinc leach residues.

Mr Paul Abbott, Managing Director of Ausmelt said: “We are delighted at Korea Zinc’s continued support of Ausmelt technology in its push to provide superior treatment of industrial by-products and metallurgical secondary raw materials.”
