Specialty Bisphenol Plant Construction Begins

Marked with a ground-breaking ceremony, Hi-Bis GmbH have commenced work on their 38 million Euro production facility in Bitterfeld-Wolfen Chemical Park in Germany.

Hi-Bis GmbH is a joint venture between Honshu Chemical Industry (55%), Mitsui & Co (35%) and Bayer Polymers (10%). They intend to produce 5000 metric tons per year of specialty bisphenols from 2004. These chemicals are used by Bayer to produce highly heat resistant polycarbonates.
