New Design Guide for ExxonMobil Chemical's Santoprene Thermoplastic Vulcanizate

ExxonMobil Chemical has produced a new technical document to help customers design products with Santoprene(TM) thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs). "Design Guidelines for Santoprene(TM) Thermoplastic Vulcanizate" is based on 25 years' experience gained on topics related to the design of rubber parts.

The fully illustrated document provides comprehensive guidelines and the theory behind design in relation to both material performance and processing. Topics include: injection molding; grips; shutoff design; extrusion; blow molding; seals; tubes, ducts and bellows; and convolutes.

"Designers tend to be experienced in working either with plastics or rubber. So, the guide has been developed for those unfamiliar with designing with TPEs. We expect to update the document and new sections may be added. We'd be delighted with any feedback from the design community," said Ward Narhi, senior design engineer, ExxonMobil Chemical Specialty Elastomers Business.

Technical documents are available online at www.santoprene.com where there is a dedicated "Design Your Part" section. Advice can also be obtained from AnswerPerson(SM), a global resource for answering technical, product and manufacturing questions which is available online or by phone.
