Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has become established in Shanghai by constructing a plant that forms an important part of the company’s growth strategy in the Asian markets.
Situated in the Xinzhuang Industrial Park, one of the largest industrial estates in southeastern Shanghai, Trelleborg Sealing Solutions (TSS) Shanghai is an investment formally established in August 2006. This plant will produce a wide range of seals and bearings, as well as offer technical and commercial support to the company’s rapidly expanding base of Asian customers.
“This manufacturing unit forms an important part of TSS’ growth strategy in the Asian markets, as it caters not only to customers’ demands for local production in the Asian region, but also allows for improved service thanks to its proximity to the market,” says Carsten Hoeg, President of TSS Global Operations Engineered Plastics.
In the start-up phase, 26 Computer Numeric Control (CNC) centers will be installed. By the end of 2006, molding and mixing facilities for TSS’ range of proprietary materials will be in operation.
As a part of Global Operation Engineered Plastics (GOEP), TSS Shanghai offers services equal to those at the company’s European and American plants, such as speed of response, logistics and engineering support, as well as collaboration. To help with this, local management and other key employees have received extensive training at GOEP's European and US-based facilities.
“One of the biggest challenges is not only to build up an organization from scratch with members from various industries and to motivate them to work as a team to meet TSS’ expectations, but also to provide them with a challenging environment that is conducive to hard work and success,” says Lawrence Yeo, General Manager of TSS Shanghai.
With the next five years already mapped out, it is expected that TSS Shanghai will accommodate the company’s growth needs in China, the biggest single opportunity in the region, and provide the flexibility, service and innovation that the customer demands.
