AZoM.com, the A to Z of Materials reached yet another milestone in July serving up the 2 millionth visitor session since launching on the web in September 2001.
With over 250,000 visitor sessions per month, AZoM.com is recognised by many commentators to be the most significant materials destination on the web, providing materials information, coupled with a global supplier and expert network.
When asked why AZoM.com had been so successful, AZoM.com CEO Dr. Ian Birkby explained, "We have produced a materials portal that is easy to use and has remained free to access. In so doing we have delivered a vast information source with quality content from high quality partners that places thousands of buyers of materials in direct contact with the manufacturers and service providers".

Dr. Birkby noted that it hadn’t all been plain sailing with initial design errors leading to the site undergoing a major re-design only 6 months after launch in March of 2002.
The site re-design however was so successful that it not only helped to boost visitor numbers, but also led to AZoM.com conducting web-site design and search engine optimisation projects for existing clients and other materials-based businesses.
"Since we launched, we have continued to develop the site and add new features to improve the visitor experience. We have listened to what our customers have said and used their feedback in our development programs.
Features such as ‘AskAZoM’ our natural language search facility have also proved extremely successful, helping site visitors to find the information they need quickly and easily as if they are talking to an expert," Dr. Birkby continued.
