Tata BlueScope Steel Limited, a 50:50 joint venture between BlueScope Steel and India's Tata Steel, strengthened its position in the steel construction industry with the recent opening of its third building components and systems manufacturing facility at Sriperumbudur, Chennai in southern India.
The opening of this plant completes the Company's A$100 million investment in a network of three building solutions facilities on the Indian sub-continent. It will manufacture light steel structures as well as roofing and walling cladding solutions under the well-known LYSAGHT™ brand name.
President Asian Building and Manufacturing Markets, Kathryn Fagg, said, "We are delighted to open the Chennai facility when South India is experiencing a major growth in the construction sector. The new facility will offer light steel solutions to our customers in this region. This plant is important for us as it provides the opportunity to launch our light steel structure solutions for the commercial, agriculture, residential and institutional sectors that have been so successful throughout Asia and Australia."
Managing Director, Tata BlueScope Steel, Chetan Tolia, said, "With this plant in Chennai, we will further strengthen our offerings in the southern region of India. This facility is geared to create infrastructural capabilities for community centres, schools, indoor sports complex, residential units, railway stations and bus shelters."
Construction of a A$265 million metallic coating and painting facility at Jamshedpur, in the state of Jharkhand, eastern India, adjacent to Tata Steel's existing steelworks is underway.
