For over two years Reseau Trans-Al inc. and the NRC-Aluminium Technology Centre (ATC) have been working together to develop the 2006 Edition of the Canadian Aluminium Transformation Technology Roadmap (TRM).
Objective: Present the future needs of world markets to the Canadian aluminium transformation industry and identify the technological and commercial activities showing the best wealth creating potential.
The document, launched today at the NRC-Aluminium Technology Centre, is the result of a wide-ranging information search and consultation with over 150 world experts specialising in transformation. The Roadmap presents four major recommendations and 38 first-rate opportunities for the advancement of our industry. These opportunities concern transportation, construction, as well as shape casting, forming, joining, surface treatment, and machining.
"It is a portrait of transformation as drawn by industry role players, a guide for businesses, individuals, and any organisation wishing to play a part in reinforcing and expanding our industry", declared Reseau Trans-Al President, Mr. Jean Pare.
The completion of the new TRM was made possible by the financial support of the following partners: Canada Economic Development, the Aluminium Association of Canada (AAC), and the ministere du Developpement economique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation du Quebec.
Special thanks go to the work team, the members of the Steering Committee, and those who participated in the various TRM activities.
The four recommendations of the new TRM:
- Ensure a systematic coordination and cooperation of all aluminium transformation industry players
- Develop the Canadian capacity to designing for aluminium instead of simply "manufacturing out of aluminium".
- Promote continuous training in the aluminium industry (architects, engineers and designers).
- Continually update the Canadian Aluminium Transformation Technology Roadmap.
