Zamil Steel was proud to be chosen as a participant at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals Civil Engineering Department Awareness Day, held on May 13 -14. The awareness day was held to inform new students about engineering careers and explain the advantages of selecting the civil engineering career path. In addition to being a solid career with plenty of potential for growth, the students also learned how civil engineers contribute to the kingdom and their communities through the quality of their work.
Zamil Steel representatives met with the students and distributed flyers outlining the various roles and duties performed by civil engineers in the course of their work. They answered questions about the real life careers of civil engineers that work on important projects within the kingdom such as the following:
- Steel construction for residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
- Concrete construction for residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
- Bridges
- Roads and highways
- Creating infrastructure to serve areas of new development
- Railroads and the infrastructure that surrounds them
- Water treatment facilities and surrounding infrastructures
- Surveying sites of newly planned projects
- Ensuring the stability of building foundations
The Zamil Steel representatives proceeded to explain that civil engineers have a variety of choices when it comes to specific jobs and work environments. They explained that, as a practicing civil engineer, one can establish his own consulting office, or obtain a position as a government or municipal employee, or work in the civil engineering department of a privately-owned company.
The effort put forth by Zamil Steel was much appreciated by the students and the members of the KFUPM civil engineering department. In demonstration of this appreciation, Zamil Steel was presented with a certificate of recognition for distinguished participation, signed by Dr. Husain J Al-Gahtani, Chairman of the Civil Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.
