Alcan is presenting its innovative, lightweight sandwich solutions for the rail and bus industries at the International Association of Public Transport's (UITP) 57th World Congress and Mobility & City Transport Exhibition in Helsinki, Finland.
"Alcan's showcase at the UITP exhibition demonstrates that our technological expertise provides our customers with lightweight materials, parts and solutions that result in reduced vehicle weight and lower operating costs," said Wolfgang Schmitz, President of the Alcan Engineered and Automotive Solutions business unit.
Visitors to Alcan's Composite Structures display at UITP 2007 will be offered insight into the Company's outstanding technological expertise. Highlights of the showcase include a structural front cover for the Dm 12 railbus. This fibre-reinforced plastics component is manufactured by Alcan for SKODA Transportation in Ostrava, Czech Republic. The Dm 12 railbus will be operated by Finnish Railways VR.
Alcan's diverse and innovative composite materials will be illustrated by numerous exhibition sample parts; such as floors, roofs and three-dimensional sandwich components for the transportation market. The Company's high-performance, weight and energy saving parts for extremely demanding applications will also be displayed and include engine hatch and spoiler sets for Porsche sports cars as well as engineered solutions for propellers used in industrial air conditioning plants.
