VueMetrix Inc. today announced DiodeGuardTM – a new approach to in-series laser diode protection. For the first time, diode lasers operated in series are protected against cascade failure with DiodeGuard's innovative circuitry design.
“We believe that DiodeGuard raises the standard for laser diode protection, giving both OEM system manufacturers and end users assurance against cascade failure in the event that one or more diodes fail,” said Eric Smoker, VueMetrix vice president for marketing and sales. He continued, “For customers building fiber lasers and direct diode materials processing systems, this is a big step forward in improving their overall system reliability.”
Cascade failure of a series of diodes most commonly occurs when a diode in the series shorts, causing an instantaneous drop in the forward bias voltage of the string of diodes. With a switched mode power supply, this instantaneous drop in voltage results in a current surge that can cause catastrophic destruction of the remaining diodes. DiodeGuard is designed to prevent these incidents from affecting the entire diode string. It protects against system down-time, offering customers the ability to reduce the overall cost of ownership. Now available exclusively with the new Vue-MV-21 laser diode controller, VueMetrix plans to offer DiodeGuard for additional Vue Series models in the near future.
DiodeGuard and the Vue-MV-21 are the latest additions to the VueMetrix broad product portfolio of laser diode control systems, subsystems and software. VueMetrix products address the needs of a variety of industrial, commercial and research markets and include laser diode-pumped solid state laser controllers with multiple TEC drivers; multi-channel laser diode, high current laser diode and TEC controllers; high compliance voltage controllers for laser diode bars and stacks.
VueMetrix DiodeGuard will be introduced in conjunction with the new high-power, low-noise Vue-MV-21 laser diode controller at LASER 2007, June 18-21, 2007 in Munich, Germany. VueMetrix will be represented at the AMS Technologies stand number B1.301 at the bi-annual event.
