The 34th annual Chemspec Europe 2019 conference will continue in its tradition to bring experts, scientists, managers and thought leaders from around the world together to discuss the most recent technological advancements, business and market trends, as well as regulatory issues within the global chemistry industry. Between June 26 and 27, 2019 in Messe Basel, Switzerland, Chemspec 2019 is sure to increase the knowledge and insights to ensure that all attendees will succeed in their future endeavors.

The Agrochemical Industry and Chemical Startups

This year’s Chemspec 2019 will provide various seminar programs that will target the specific research interests of a wide variety of industries. For insights into the current state of the agrochemical industry, Chemspec will host the Agrochemical Lecture Theater. One of the main focuses of the agrochemical lecture series will be on evaluating the global shift towards chemical startup companies. To this end, various startups from around the world will present their current and future goals as they each emerge into the international chemical market in March of 2019. During this part of the conference, Dr. Holger Bengs of BCNP Consultants will discuss the importance of interdisciplinary, whereas Dr. Michael Brandkamp of High-Tech Grunderfonds Management will provide his perception of financial trends that are currently found in the European chemical startup scene.

Advice on Regulatory and Chemicals Management

Chemspec 2019 will host the Regulatory Services Lecture Theater Program which is a two day seminar dedicated to providing advice and support to attendees on how to address regulatory and chemical management issues. This seminar, which is hosted by REACHReady for the 12th consecutive year, will also include discussions on how to manage specific chemicals of interest, the importance of handling legal and compliance issues, and how various anticipated European legislative documents will potentially affect European chemical companies.

The speakers who will be presenting a variety of different topics at the 2019 Regulatory lecture series during Chemspec include Jennifer Butcher of REACHReady, who will discuss ways in which industry leaders can prepare themselves for harmonized notification requirements at poison control centers. Alan Ritchie and Stephen Bounds of WSP UK will deliberate on what substances are currently embattled throughout the market, and how REACH authorization and restriction can affect the ability of industries to distribute these chemicals. Dr. Mark Pemberton of Global MSDS Limited will also present on both the current and proposed legislative methods used to regulate polymer products. Additionally, several different lectures will examine nanomaterials, the ways in which these products are regulated and how companies can continue to bring their nanomaterials to market despite potential regulatory hurdles.

Trends, Challenges and the Future of the Pharmaceutical Industry

The Pharma Lecture Theater at this year’s Chemspec will provide attendees with an intimate discussion on ongoing research and development products taking place within the pharmaceutical industry. Furthermore, this lecture series will also discuss the current trends of the industry, as well as the challenges that researchers within the pharmaceutical industries commonly face.

Dr. Magid Abou-Gharbia will chair the Pharma Outsourcing Best Practices Panel, which is a session within the Pharma Lecture Theater that aims to support the expansion and management of effective outsourcing partnerships. This panel will include speakers from several internationally renowned companies including Merck, Eli Lilly, AMRI, Alcami, Novartis, Celgene, Johnson Matthey, Siegfried and Bristol Myers Squibb. Chemspec attendees participating in research and the custom synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) from Pharma, Crop Protection and Chemical companies, contract research organizations (CROs) and chief marketing officers (CMOs) will particularly benefit from attending this session.

Reducing the Environmental Impact

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) will host the 2019 RSC Symposium titled ‘Re Sourcing our Resources; Reducing Environmental Impact.’ As a result of the growing global demand to develop alternative chemical and material sources, particular interest has been made on how the repurposing of waste can address these interests. Researchers have been particularly interested in developing recycling processes capable of transforming waste materials that would normally pollute the environment into potential precursor compounds.

The RSC Symposium will include talks from international acclaimed speakers on sustainability topics including:

  • The value of waste extractions
  • How critical raw materials can be replaced
  • Replacing synthetic materials with natural and raw materials
  • Reducing the environmental impact of plastic materials
  • The chemical and biodegradable properties of bioplastics
  • Process efficiencies and biocatalysis

Conclusion

Clearly, the Chemspec 2019 international conference will not be one to miss. With a wide variety of discussion on current and future developments within the pharmaceutical industry, advice on addressing and complying with global regulatory concerns and evaluating the potential for new chemical startup companies, every attendee will undoubtedly take away a tremendous amount of knowledge from this event.
