New Siemens Long Rolling Mill for Evraz Caspian Steel in Kostanay

A new long rolling mill from Siemens Metals Technologies has been brought into operation for Evraz Caspian Steel LLC, a Kazakh steel producer. The rolling mill is part of a new production location for the Evraz-Group in the town of Kostanay.

Praxair Acquires Messer’s Industrial Gases Business in Italy

Praxair, Inc. announced it has strengthened its position in Italy through the acquisition of Messer Italia S.p.A’s liquid carbon dioxide, oxygen, nitrogen and argon and packaged gases businesses. The businesses will be fully integrated into the operations of Praxair’s Italian joint venture, Rivoira S.p.A. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

When you think of polygons, you don’t typically think of a cutting edge piece of clothing, but MakerBot and Francis Bitonti have changed that equation with the introduction of the Bristle Dress. The Bristle Dress is a fully 3D printed dress designed in Francis Bitonti’s New Skins Brumal Bodies: Computational Design for Fashion Winter 2014 workshop held at the Metropolitan Exchange in Brooklyn, N.Y., and 3D printed on MakerBot® Replicator® 2 Desktop 3D Printers.

Additive Manufacturing Conference to Feature Optomec’s LENS Print Engine for 3D Printed Metals

Optomec announced today that the company will unveil details on its LENS Print Engine solution at the Laser Additive Manufacturing (LAM) Conference to be held in Houston, Texas, on March 12-13. The LENS Print Engine, which is a modularized version of the LENS 3D Printing system for metals, can be integrated with standard metal cutting machine tools to easily deploy Additive Manufacturing as part of existing production infrastructures.

Multi-Million Dollar Contracts Awarded to Harper for High-Tech Carbon Fiber Production Systems

Harper International, world leader in thermal processing solutions for advanced materials, has been selected by a prominent firm for its production scale Carbon Fiber conversion line. The contracts include, but are not limited to, advanced three meter wide Oxidation Ovens, LT and HT carbonization systems, waste gas abatement systems, fiber handling and integrated additional unit operations, controls, and services, valued at approximately $38 Million USD in total.

Praxair Announces Acquisition of Packaged Gas Distributors in Oklahoma and Texas

Praxair, Inc. announced today that it has acquired two independent distributors of packaged gas and welding supplies – United Welding Supplies, LLC (United) in Texas and Best Welders Supply, Inc. (Best) in Oklahoma, with combined 2013 annual sales of about $30 million. Financial terms of the transactions were not disclosed.
