At this week’s European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (EUPVSEC in Paris), imec, a nanoelectronics research center based in Belgium, and Meco, a supplier of plating equipment for semiconductor and solar industry, present large area (156x156mm2) i-PERC-type silicon solar cells with industry-applicable Nickel/Copper (Ni/Cu) plating for the front contacts.
The Heraeus Photovoltaics Business Unit will be exhibiting at this year's EU PVSEC, to be held in Paris from October 1-3 (EU PVSEC Conference: September 30 – October 4) and will showcase their new metallization pastes for n-type solar cells.
High efficiency and low silver cost – a contradiction? Tests from the German based Institute for Solar Energy Research Hamelin (ISFH) show that it's not. The institute printed and tested a high efficiency solar cell (eta: 20.2%) with a silver cost less than $ 0.01 per Wp for front-side metallization using Heraeus pastes. This cell is a Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell (PERC) and the front-side grid was printed using the Dual Print technique.
Daqo New Energy Corp., a leading polysilicon manufacturer based in China, today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Xinjiang Daqo New Energy Ltd., has signed long-term contracts with three Chinese leading wafer manufacturers to provide them with monthly supplies of polysilicon starting from September 2013 to December 2014.
JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd. ("JA Solar" or the "Company"), one of the world's largest manufacturers of high-performance solar power products, today announced that its p-type mono-crystalline silicon ("mono-Si") solar cells, a new family of high-performance solar cells dubbed "PERCIUM," have surpassed 20% conversion efficiency.
ProxEnergy BV and Cencorp Corporation have signed a Distribution Agreement on selling photovoltaic modules, manufactured by Cencorp, in Cape Verde and the Netherlands. The first order based on the Distribution Agreement values for ca. EUR 0.15 million.
Today, GE and First Solar announced a technology partnership to advance thin-film solar cells and modules. First Solar has acquired GE's global cadmium telluride (CdTe) solar intellectual property portfolio, setting a course for significant advancement of photovoltaic (PV) thin-film solar technology. GE received 1.75 million shares of First Solar common stock as part of this transaction. GE has agreed to retain the shares for at least three years.
Scientists have spent decades trying to build flexible plastic solar cells efficient enough to compete with conventional cells made of silicon. To boost performance, research groups have tried creating new plastic materials that enhance the flow of electricity through the solar cell. Several groups expected to achieve good results by redesigning pliant polymers of plastic into orderly, silicon-like crystals, but the flow of electricity did not improve.
Researchers at the University of Basel have successfully replaced the rare element iodine in copper-based dye-sensitized solar cells by the more abundant element cobalt, taking a step forward in the development of enviro...
