BASF will present its chemical intermediates, catalysts and inorganics portfolio at the “ChemSpec” trade show in Munich, Germany, on June 18 and 19. The focus of booth 4127 will be in innovative solutions for the pharmaceuticals and agrochemical industries as well as coatings, electronic chemicals and plant engineering applications. First held over 20 years ago, ChemSpec Europe is considered one of the major trade shows for manufacturers of fine and specialty chemicals in this region.
Chiral intermediates and non-chiral specialties
Under the ChiPros® trademark, BASF provides its customers with access to a wide and growing portfolio of chiral amines, beta-aminoacids, aminoalcohols, aromatic and aliphatic alpha-hydroxy acids, alcohols and epoxides. ChiPros, which are manufactured on the basis of various biocatalytic processes, are used successfully in the production of active substances for pharmaceuticals and crop protectants.
BASF will also present non-chiral specialties that are likewise used to produce active substances for the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries. The company manufactures these products on the basis of its highly sophisticated technologies. These include, for example, electrochemistry as well as transformations in the field of high-pressure chemistry like hydroformylation, hydroamination and hydrogenation. Using its technologies as a basis, BASF also offers to develop on request new intermediates that are not yet commercially available.
Ionic liquids for a broad range of applications
BASF will also be presenting its range of more than 20 ionic liquids, marketed under the brand name BasionicsTM, at the ChemSpec show. The company develops customer- and application-specific products and processes that exploit the favorable properties of ionic liquids, which are highly versatile indeed. Its production facilities and expertise enable BASF to produce ionic liquids in any volume, from lab scale to industrial scale. The company also offers a comprehensive package of services, including regulatory support and special logistics solutions.
Under the heading “Ionic Liquids – Solutions for your Success,” Dr. Uwe Vagt, BASF’s Ionic Liquids Project Manager, gives an introduction to the subject at ChemSpec. The presentation takes place in the ChemSpec Exhibitor Showcase area in Hall 3 at 11:30 AM on June 18.
“THF Solutions” - Tetrahydrofuran for the pharma industry
BASF is expanding its offer for the chemical intermediate tetrahydrofuran (THF) specifically for its pharmaceutical industry customers in Europe. The package offering, to be marketed under the heading “THF Solutions,” will include the elements “THF Pharma,” “THF Pharma super dry” and “THF life-cycle solution.” In addition to the THF pharma grade already available, the package will comprise a modified THF with a reduced water content (“THF Pharma super dry”) as well as an initiative aimed at taking back used THF (“THF life-cycle solution”). This puts BASF in an even better position to meet the demanding requirements for THF quality made in particular by customers in the pharmaceutical industry. Moreover, the company offers a full-circle supply concept that allows for the return of THF after use.
BASF’s THF Product Manager Dennis Kluever will present the expanded offer at 10:30 AM on June 19. The presentation on “THF Solutions – How product-related services can add value to your business” will take place in the Exhibitor Showcase area in Hall 3.
The BASF Group’s Intermediates division develops, produces and markets the world's largest range of intermediates. Key representatives of the more than 600 products include amines, diols, polyalcohols and acids. The range of top quality elements, reagents, solvents and protecting groups for chemical synthesis includes an extensive portfolio of chiral amines, alcohols, epoxides and acids (ChiPros®).
Inorganic specialties for the fine chemicals industry
The Inorganics operating division offers to its customers a broad portfolio of inorganic chemicals such as alcoholates, alkali metal compounds, boron trifluoride and borane compounds, boroxins and borates, hydroxylamine and its derivatives. The product range also includes 2- and 4-hydroxyacetophenone. These specialties are used as catalysts, reagents and building blocks in a wide variety of innovative industries, particularly in the pharmaceutical, agrochemical or cosmetics industries. Driven by customer needs New Business Development continuously works on the expansion of BASF’s inorganics portfolio. Recent examples of BASF’s activities in this area are the launch of hydroxylamine-O-sulfonic acid, a versatile aminating agent, O-benzylhydroxylamine hydrochloride, which is useful whenever a protecting group on an N-O-functionality is needed, as well as the development of N,O-dimethylhydroxylamine hydrochloride that is now available also in larger quantities for syntheses in the life science industry. These product innovations contribute to making our customers’ syntheses less complex and time-consuming as well as more cost-effective.
Catalysts for environmental and chemical applications
BASF Catalysts, a division of BASF, is the world’s leading supplier of environmental and process catalysts. The group offers exceptional expertise in the development of technologies that protect the air, produce fuels and ensure efficient production of a wide variety of chemicals, plastics and adsorbents.
BASF delivers high-standard enabling technologies to the fine chemical, pharmaceutical and agrochemical markets. The portfolio of enabling technologies, including precious metal and base metal hetero- and homogeneous catalysts and metal scavenging materials, is continuously strengthened by focused R&D and licensing of new technologies.
