Intellection has consolidated its presence in the Indian mining market, with the purchase of a QEMSCAN® automated mineralogy system by the Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT).
The second QEMSCAN® in India, it will be used for a range of research and development projects in the mining and mineralogy sector.
Formerly known as the Regional Research Laboratory, IMMT is located in Bhubaneswar, in Eastern India, and is a highly regarded research and development organisation under the auspices of the Indian Government’s Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.
Intellection CEO Calvin Treacy said, “India represents an exciting opportunity for Intellection. The current mining boom due to increased private and foreign investment takes in many minerals for which we have existing QEMSCAN® applications and proven expertise.
“IMMT is a premier research institution, and we look forward to working with them and being part of their innovative program.”
IMMT Director Professor B.K. Mishra said, “IMMT is going to use QEMSCAN® support to add value to several ongoing R&D projects. Acquisition of the QEMSCAN® is also going to give a new impetus to IMMT’s future mineral research programs, including exploration and beneficiation of platinum group elements in India.”
Intellection will provide full QEMSCAN® installation, servicing and support as part of a total solution package, in conjunction with its local distributor, EM Technology. The installation is expected to take place in late August this year.
Intellection installed the first QEMSCAN® in India for Tata Steel in late 2006. It is located in Tata Steel’s home town of Jamshedpur, and is used for research and development by the Ferro Alloys and New Business Research Group.
