Rockwool Give Away over 200 Tonnes of Insulation Materials

Rockwool's great insulation giveaway has now finished with the company handing out, free of charge, more than 200 tonnes of loft insulation to 500 Welsh homeowners.

The insulation given away through the scheme could save the participating homeowners up to £102,000 a year through reduced heating bills.

The insulation giveaway lasted for four weeks and was developed by Rockwool as part of its commitment to the environment and as a pilot project to try and boost energy efficiency and cut fuel costs in the South Wales region, close to Rockwool's factory in Bridgend.

The project has been so successful that Rockwool is considering repeating it potentially in other areas of the UK in a bid to raise awareness of the importance of insulating homes properly in order to protect the environment and cut energy wastage.

The project gained the backing of Bridgend MP Madeleine Moon and community interest group Warm Wales, and saw hundreds of Welsh homeowners queuing up to receive the free loft insulation and gain instructions on how to install it correctly.

Hans Schreuder, Rockwool managing director, commented: "The great insulation giveaway has been a tremendous success and we are delighted that so many people took part in the scheme and have now gained the means to insulate their homes more effectively and do their bit for the environment while also saving money.

"The popularity of the scheme and the positive reaction that we have gained from householders and environmental groups is really encouraging and we will review the success of this programme and look to repeat it in future, potentially in other parts of the UK as well as in Wales.

"Rockwool has its UK factory in Bridgend and we wanted to run this initial granulate giveaway scheme in the area as a way to give something back to the community in which we work and we're delighted that so many people have joined in."

The Energy Saving Trust estimates that fuel bills can be cut by up to £205 a year through proper loft insulation in the average three-bedroom family home.
