The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) will join the Brazilian Metallurgy, Materials, and Minerals Society (ABM) to present the 1st TMS-ABM International Materials Congress in conjunction with the 65th ABM Congress convening July 26-30, 2010, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The new specialty meeting is an outcome of the TMS Alliance of the Americas initiative to build Society partnerships in North and South America.
"I am excited that the TMS Board of Directors has authorized our collaborative efforts with the Brazilian Metallurgy, Materials, and Minerals Society to co-sponsor the 1st TMS-ABM International Materials Congress to be held in 2010 in Rio de Janeiro. We look forward to this being the first step in a continuing series of meetings to broaden the interactions of metallurgists and materials scientists in South and North America," said TMS President Ray Peterson. "That this program is moving ahead is a testament to the great efforts of TMS members as well as the strong reputation of TMS as an international partner."
The conference focuses on a broad range of contemporary issues in materials science and engineering. Currently, there are seven planned symposia. They are: Characterization and Application of Biomaterials; Dynamic Behavior of Materials; Composite Materials; Light Weight Materials for Transportation; Materials and Society; Mechanical Properties of Materials with Emphasis on Grain-size Effects; and Computational Modeling and Advanced Characterization.
Abstracts are being accepted for the 1st TMS-ABM International Materials Congress through November 30. For more information or to submit an abstract, visit www.tms.org/meetings/specialty/ABM-TMS/home.aspx.
