Corus Meets with Union Representatives to Assess Mothballing Alternatives for Teeside Cast Products

The steel committee and Teesside Multi-Union representatives met with Corus today to discuss the situation at Teesside Cast Products (TCP).

All parties agreed to establish a joint taskforce to ensure that all alternatives to mothballing are fully examined; to continue appropriate preparations should mothballing be required; and to oversee individual consultations with the workforce, which will begin in January.

The taskforce will work with local and national government agencies to mitigate the potential loss of Teesside's core skills base and the effects on the local region and its economy.

The unions will be engaging their own steel industry experts to assist with the process.
