Granta Design Launches New Version of CES EduPack

Granta Design has announced the release of CES EduPack 2010, the latest version of the world-leading teaching resource for materials and processes, now used at over 700 universities and colleges worldwide. The interdisciplinary support provided by CES EduPack is extended, with new editions for Nuclear Power and Sustainability & the Built Environment added to existing editions for: General, Mechanical, and Materials Engineering; Design; Eco Design; Bio Engineering; Aerospace; Polymers; and Architecture. Educators in these areas can find out more at two upcoming Symposia.

CES EduPack combines comprehensive materials information, specialist software to access and use that information, and extensive supplementary teaching resources. It is used for lectures, project work, student exercises, and course handouts. The 2010 version, developed with input from the worldwide EduPack community and overseen by Professor Mike Ashby of Cambridge University, contains many new features and resources to support these different ways of using EduPack. Areas that will benefit include:

  • Courses on sustainability and energy - the two new EduPack editions support these hot topic areas, as do enhancements to the innovative Eco Audit Tool, which aids study of key concepts in eco design
  • Project work - a new feature makes it easy to view and plot project data alongside data from EduPack information resources
  • Getting started with CES EduPack - video tutorials make it even easier for both students and academics to get going with the EduPack software
  • Worldwide use - a Spanish language version is added to existing English, French, and German versions

NEW EDITIONS

Training a new generation of nuclear engineers is a high priority for engineering faculties worldwide. Now CES EduPack can help. The Nuclear Power Edition provides informative schematics and descriptions of reactor types, integrated with information on materials grades and properties of specific interest in nuclear power systems. Reviewing this information and using EduPack software tools to apply it in practical exercises, provides students with an engaging way to learn about important materials issues in nuclear engineering.

The new Sustainability & the Built Environment Edition enhances the standard materials and process information in CES EduPack with additional environmental property data and with information on construction materials and structural sections. The result is a comprehensive materials teaching resource for courses in Civil Engineering, Structures, the Built Environment, and for Architectural courses that need greater depth on engineering materials and/or eco properties.

MATERIALS EDUCATION SYMPOSIA

"We're very pleased to deliver another annual release of CES EduPack, with further enhancements and innovations based on input from the active community of academics using CES EduPack," comments Granta's co-founder Professor Mike Ashby. "We look forward to welcoming members of this community to two upcoming Materials Education Symposia."

These two one-day events feature speakers from fifteen leading universities discussing ideas for teaching of materials and processes in engineering and related subjects. Both events are preceded by two days of optional short courses. The events provide an opportunity for attendees to see and try CES EduPack 2010 and to provide input to the development of next year's EduPack release.

Symposia dates and locations:

20 March, 2010 at the Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ, USA

26 March, 2010 at the University of Cambridge, UK
