New Marine Sleep Solution Incorporates Climashield’s Insulation

After three years of research and testing, Climashield today announced that they have been selected as the insulation of choice for the new Marine Corps 3 Season Sleeping Bag - an innovative, terrain-tested sleep solution.

Designed specifically for the Marines, the 3 Season Sleep System, or 3S, features a sleeping bag with Climashield Combat insulation that is 20 percent lighter and 20 percent smaller, with increased thermal efficiency.

Made in the U.S.A., the Berry Compliant 20 degree sleeping bag incorporates the hallmark durability of Climashield's Combat continuous filament insulation and offers an estimated 12 degrees more protection and 0.7 lbs less weight than the previous bag - the Modular Sleep System (MSS). The insulation includes AquaBan™ technology, a surface encapsulation treatment that keeps Marines warm, even in wet conditions. With AquaBan, body moisture is released from the bag in order to avoid a clammy feel while body heat is trapped inside the insulation for maximum warmth.

"For over 25 years, Climashield has strategized with military suppliers and manufacturers to develop insulation solutions that aid troops on the ground," said Brian Emanuel, General Manager of HarVest CI, Climashield's parent company. "The 3S answers a practical need by reducing weight and bulk for easy packing and light traveling, without compromising thermal efficiency."

The new 3S was battle-tested in Afghanistan at the end of last year, where temperatures on winter nights can drop to the 20s and 30s. Now, 3S bags are being employed for Marines stationed around the world.
