North American Salt Receives Design for the Environment Label for an Ice Melter

North American Salt Company, a subsidiary of Compass Minerals (NYSE: CMP), today announced the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded the Design for the Environment (DfE) label to one of the company’s packaged ice melter products.

Safe Step® Pro Series® 960 Choice Formula ice melter now will carry the DfE label, indicating that the product meets the EPA’s criteria for environmental safety.

Safe Step Pro Series 960 Choice Formula

“The DfE label ensures that the designated product is on the green end of the health and environment spectrum,” said Jerry Bucan, vice president and general manager of NASC’s consumer and industrial business. “The EPA has extremely stringent guidelines for considering a product for this label, and we’re pleased that the agency recognized our Pro Series 960 Choice Formula for its low environmental impact and eco-friendly formula.”

The EPA’s DfE label is awarded after the agency’s review team has screened each ingredient contained in a product and found each to pose the least concern among chemicals in its class.

Safe Step is a leading ice melter brand for building maintenance and landscape professionals. The 960 Choice Formula is a low-toxicity formulation that has fewer chlorides, is less corrosive and helps prevent refreezing up to two and one-half times longer than conventional ice melters. It melts ice in temperatures as low as minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit.
