Plasti-Fab, a leading manufacturer of composite solutions, today released their new "Green" Industrial Shelter Series made of recycled and green fiberglass materials.
Plasti-Fab Guardian Green SheltersTM are made by combining fiberglass scrap in the form of a Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) compound with a green resin and a low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) manufacturing process as part of their ongoing Managed Emission ProcessTM (MEP) program.
Over the past few years, Plasti-Fab's MEP initiative has been a top priority for the seasoned composites manufacturer. Servicing industries that have generally been prevented by material cost to conform to the “Green” movement, Plasti-Fab has created a company agenda to be the world leader within the composites industry when it comes to implementing sustainable technologies. With the release of their Guardian Green Shelter SeriesTM, the fruits of their labor have paid off. The newly released Eco-friendly product is a result of the culmination of multiple manufacturing processes Plasti-Fab has been orchestrating after a thorough period of R & D, investing hundreds of man hours and a substantial amount of capital.
In 2009, the focus was on reducing the carbon footprint in the typical fiberglass manufacturing process caused mostly by the release of detrimental VOCs. By eliminating the use of Acetone as a process solvent, the company reduced their VOC emissions by over 96%, making them eligible for a reduced air permit as a Conditionally Exempt Generator of hazardous waste.
In addition to cleansing their daily manufacturing processes, the MEP program has been able to incorporate fiberglass scrap for other products, as well as the newly released Green Shelters. This recycled, or re-used scrap, along with invested Green resin creates the Green FRP composite for the shelters. The end product uses about 70% overall green and recycled constituents without compromising the long-lasting, non-corrosive integrity of the respected FRP compound Plasti-Fab is known for. Specifically, the Green Shelters use 43% in-house recycled material and 27% green product. Not only are their customers saving money by using a compound that will not require replacement parts or maintenance due to the durable nature of the FRP (there are FRP shelters currently in operation for 40+ years), but they are also significantly reducing stressful impact on our ecosystem by reducing their carbon footprint using a product manufactured by the cleanest method available fort the industry; up until now that footprint has been severe in an industry that mass produces large amounts of products using materials that often need to be replaced, such as cast iron or steel.
This is an exciting and proud time for the industrial company, “The cutting-edge combination of Eco-friendly manufacturing processes, use of green materials, reduce-recycle-reuse techniques and overall carbon footprint reduction allow us to help save the planet one product at a time.” – Ron Schneberger, Director of International Markets
