Eka Chemicals, one of the world's leading manufacturers of bleaching and performance chemicals for the pulp and paper industry, has selected Intergraph® SmartPlant® Enterprise solutions as the strategic engineering software supporting their global engineering business.
Eka Chemicals, a business unit within AkzoNobel, will use the Intergraph engineering solutions in all disciplines for its project execution, from front-end engineering and design (FEED) to handover to the owners, including engineering, material handling, delivery, installation, start-up and operations. Among the solutions chosen by Eka were SmartPlant Foundation for data management, SmartPlant Materials for materials management and the other SmartPlant design applications for engineering and design.
The implementation at Eka Chemicals will begin with engineering systems processes and document management and end with installing third-party applications such as PRISM® Cost Management, PRISM Enterprise Time and building interfaces to Eka's global SAP® system. Implementation will start at the Nacka and Bohus sites in Sweden, followed by other countries where Eka runs engineering operations such as Brazil, China and the United States.
SmartPlant Enterprise is an integrated solutions suite that provides full design, construction, materials and engineering data management capabilities needed for the creation, safe operation and maintenance and capital Project Life Cycle Management (cPLM) of large-scale process, power, marine and offshore projects. The software's intelligent data-centric and rules-based solutions enable users to share data globally, build safety into plants early in the design process, and efficiently construct and manage the engineering design basis throughout the life cycle of an asset.
"Eka chose Intergraph SmartPlant Enterprise software because of the productivity advantages and the seamless integration between its solutions," said Kenth Lofqvist, Manager Engineering IT. "SmartPlant Enterprise meets our high expectations and the requirements we have for system functionality, including data-centric based architecture, the ability to process several plant objects simultaneously, and only entering plant information once."
Tommy Hogman, Director of Eka Engineering added: "This is a major investment that will make it easier to work as a unit and it will increase our productivity, and therefore, our competitiveness."
Gerhard Sallinger, Intergraph Process, Power & Marine president, said, "Eka's exhaustive evaluation of competing enterprise solutions and its selection of Intergraph's SmartPlant Enterprise are indicative of the increased productivity, safety and accelerated project execution our solutions bring to industry leaders." The ARC Advisory Group, a leading industry analyst firm, ranked Intergraph the No. 1 overall engineering design 3D software and process engineering tools (PET) provider worldwide according to its PET Worldwide Outlook Market Analysis and Forecast through 2013.
