Composites Horizons, Inc. (CHI), an innovator and leading producer of advanced composite products using the latest process technologies, has announced it is undergoing a major expansion program to support recently signed new contracts.
CHI is part of the Aerostructures & Composites division of the United Kingdom based Hampson Group.
"This expansion allows us to continue providing our customers with the best, most technologically advanced production solutions available," stated Jeff Hynes, President of CHI. "Developing and maintaining long-term relationships with our customers is very important to us. This expansion ensures that we remain fully capable of doing just that."
Prior to the expansion, CHI's facilities were housed in twin buildings located next door to each other in Covina, California. The recently added adjacent third building adds an additional 41,000 sq. ft. (an 82% increase). Renovations at the existing CHI buildings included a 2,300 sq. ft. expansion of a polyimide clean room.
The expanded site includes additional capacity to support projected growth along with machining, final assembly space, and areas for trim, coating, inspection and measuring. The three buildings centralize CHI's entire operations including fabrication, assembly and delivery operations, as well as management and engineering offices and accounting services.
The expansion also includes investments in new process equipment, including a six-axis Fidia K414 CNC mill with rotary table; on-site Ultrasonic NDI with contour following, pulse echo/thru transmission, A and C scan, and a 10-foot tank; an ASC 10-foot by 20-foot high-temperature autoclave that reaches 800-degrees F and 250 psi; a 10' x 25' high temperature oven; a Romer infinite 2.0 portable CMM with 10-foot capability, and a Flow waterjet trim center.
