Cadillac Integrates JDSU's SpectraFlair Pigment into New Black Diamond Paint for Use in Cars

JDSU (NASDAQ: JDSU) (TSX: JDU) today announced that Cadillac has integrated the JDSU SpectraFlair® Bright Silver pigment into its new Black Diamond paint and is making the special color available on the Cadillac CTS-V wagon, sedan, and coupe in 2011.

Black Diamond provides a chrome effect, appearing black from one angle while providing a sparkling or diamond-like appearance when viewed from a different angle.

Cadillac and JDSU have collaborated on car colors for ten years, using JDSU pigments to create sophisticated colors for discerning customers. According to Cadillac, up to 50 percent of buyers are willing to upgrade to a special car option in order to get a preferred car color.

In addition to the JDSU SpectraFlair pigment, Cadillac most recently used JDSU ChromaFlair® color-shifting pigments for its popular Thunder Gray and Tuscan Bronze car colors.

"Traditional colors such as black, silver and white continue to dominate the luxury car market, but customers are drawn to more complex versions of these colors," said Michelle Killen, exterior paint designer at Cadillac. "ChromaFlair and SpectraFlair pigments from JDSU allow us to add a richness and depth to our paint options that helps Cadillac stand out from other brands."

"JDSU and Cadillac work together closely to create highly desirable special-option colors that appeal to car buyers," said John Book, product manager for Custom Color Solutions at JDSU. "We collaborate with designers around the world to come up with great colors that strengthen and differentiate brands, and we're particularly proud of our work with Cadillac over the years."
