Pioneer in biomedical materials science, DSM Biomedical proclaimed that its partner, Ovesco Endoscopy, has selected its Dyneema Purity fiber for the Over-The-Scope-Clipping (OTSC) System.
The fiber’s distinctive mechanical performance and high biocompatibility, particularly its high pliability, low elongation and high strength, influenced Ovesco’s selection.
Ovesco Endoscopy and DSM have collaborated to develop better treatment procedures for endoscopic digestive organ wall closure and gastrointestinal hemorrhage. The OTSC system is superelastic Nitinol equipment utilized for compression and estimation of tissues in the digestive tract of humans. The device for flexible endoscopy has secured FDA approval for utilization in the US.
The OTSC clip is supplied by using an applicator cap attached to the tip of the colonoscopies or gastroscopes. The system’s unique material properties offer invariable force at the implantation location, resulting in enhanced healing effects of the clip. The Dyneema Purity fiber’s high pliability and strength properties offer ultra tension forces needed to deliver the highly elastic Nitinol clips.
The Global Business Director of Biomaterials at DSM Biomedical, Rob Evans commented that the OTSC System is a major advancement in the endoscopy market.
