Penlon, a UK-based supplier of pipeline parts, medical vacuum instruments and medical gas solutions for hospitals, has inked a deal to sell its Medical Gas Solutions operations to Atlas Copco for an undisclosed price. Penlon will keep its anesthesia business.
Penlon Medical Gas Solutions runs assembly plants in the United Kingdom and supplies its products via distributors to more than 30 nations, including Japan, China, India and the Middle East. This division had generated approximately £12 million in fiscal 2010. Its headquarters is located in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
The Atlas Copco Group has already established a position in the medical gas industry via BeaconMedaes.
The latest acquisition will strengthen the company’s global presence and offerings to medical gas clients across the world. Penlon Medical Gas Solutions will be consolidated under the Industrial Air division of Atlas Copco Compressor Technique. The products will be marketed under Penlon Medical Gas Solutions’ brand name.
According to Stephan Kuhn, who works as Business Area President at Atlas Copco Compressor Technique, the medical gas industry is expanding globally and its aftermarket business has a great potential. This purchase compliments Atlas Copco’s growth strategy of expanding its medical gas products and improving sales via the aftermarket business, he added.
