Paul Swan, technical service representative, Eastman Chemical Company, will deliver a paper on May 24, which details a variety of coatings industry solutions as part of 36th International conference on Coatings Technology in Sec, Czech Republic. Swan’s paper is titled An Introduction to Coalescing Aids and Eastman Film Forming Technologies.
Swan, who works at the Eastman Technical Centre in Kirkby, England, will present an overview of the role of coalescing aids in dispersion paint formulations. He will cover such areas as why coalescing aids are used; how they function; and desirable properties. Additionally, European legislation surrounding the decorative paint market will be discussed, featuring the relative benefits of Texanol Ester Alcohol and the newly introduced low odour coalescing aid Optifilm Enhancer 300.
"The choice of coalescing aids available to the paint formulator is extensive," said Swan. "When making this choice, the formulator must consider performance, widespread compatibility, economics, global availability, and regulatory compliance."
The Eastman Coatings Film Technologies coalescent portfolio, anchored by Texanol Ester Alcohol, has been designed to respond to regulatory directives, retail requirements and consumer preference. Optifilm Enhancer 300 is a new, low odor addition to the Eastman coalescent portfolio. Like Texanol EA, it is not classed as a volatile organic according to the European Union Directive 2004/42/EC.
