A Dallas-based company, Texas Industries (TXI) has acquired CEMEX USA’s aggregate and ready mix operations in July, 2011.
These operations serve the metropolitan market in Austin. TXI is a supplier of various building materials, including concrete, aggregate and cement. It is major cement producer in Texas and California. The company is also the largest producer of concrete products and bagged cement in the Southwest. In addition, TXI supplies clay products, gravel, sand and stone.
The acquisition includes CEMEX USA’s existing ready mix operations in Houston. TXI continues to run aggregate and cement operations, as well as packaged materials facilities in the Houston market. The transaction extends TXI's business with one aggregate plant and three ready mix concrete facilities.
The transaction further enhances TXI’s increasing resources in Austin, which include expansion of the Hunter Cement facility and recent purchase of the Central Texas Ready Mix business. In addition, the current acquisition improves TXI's aggregate operations in the region.
TXI’s VP and COO, Jamie Rogers stated that the company expects the Austin market to grow strong in the long-term and hence they are happy to enhance their position in this market. President and CEO, Mel Brekhus noted that the company continues to examine opportunities to augment its long-term strategic position.
