A new materials research laboratory was opened by the Fisher-Barton Group in Watertown, Wisconsin. The 1,800 sq. ft state-of-the-art material research lab is sited at the Fisher-Barton’s Specialty Products division and it serves all the seven subsidiaries.
The $2-million worth lab is equipped with modern instruments that will be for mechanical, chemical and microscopic analysis of metals and various other materials.
Founder and CEO, Dick Wilkey stated that the new lab is a powerful platform with distinctive and complete testing capabilities, which supports the Fisher-Barton Group to better serve its clients. The lab helps its customers to develop new and high-performing products in an easy and cost-effective manner. The company has set up a tradition of research and development that drives the success of its customers and the lab continues the tradition supporting innovation in a broader range of materials.
The materials research lab is capable of performing drop-weight impact analysis that generates a highly-sensitive time record of deformation and applied force during a test. Other capabilities include X-ray fluorescence and diffraction to evaluate unknown bulk samples and to discover the elements present in the sample as well as its crystallographic structure. It also houses scanning electron microscopy along with energy dispersive spectrometry to carry out elemental and chemical characterization and high-magnification imaging.
