VP Racing Fuels (VP) has announced a partnership with Gevo to assess the commercial capability of isobutanol in extensive broad range of markets.
The objective is to generate renewable fuel blends, based on isobutanol, for use in the small engine market. Through this collaboration, the companies will primarily evaluate the opportunities in the market, positioning and distribution of channels to market the renewable fuels for use in outdoor power devices.
According to Alan Cerwick, President of VP Racing Fuels, the company is expecting to explore the ability of an isobutanol-based renewable, private-label packaged and branded fuels for commercialization. Non-corrosive and low-water solvency features of Isobutanol used in small engine fuels will provide renewable and highly performing biofuel for customers in order to use in several small engine applications, he added.
Gevo’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Patrick Gruber stated that VP is well-known for its performance fuel technology, which includes more than 70 fuel blends for use in motorsports, hobby fuels for use in radio-controlled cars, helicopters and airplanes and fuels for use in small engines. Gevo has plans to commercialize isobutanol for use in a new line of highly performing fuels. Gevo is about to commence its first isobutanol facility in Luverne, Minnesota and is expecting to begin isobutanol-based blends for use in small engine fuels, he added.
