Umeco, an international provider of advanced composite and process materials, announced that it will showcase composite materials for defence applications at the 2012 EurosatoryL and and Airland Defence and Security international exhibition.
The event will be held at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre located in Paris, France from June 11 to 15, 2012.
The company’s composites are used widely in various defence applications, including blast and ballistic protection systems in armoured vehicles and structural components for aerospace, naval and vehicle applications, such as communication dishes, radomes and UAVs. The materials are also used in lightweight body armour and helmets for soldiers. The products on display includeVestGuard UK MAX-7 hard armour plate vest, Alpha Eagle aircrew helmet and ballistic panels.
VestGuard UK MAX-7 is made of ballistic hard armour plates that are manufactured using Umeco’sMTM28 prepreg material. The prepreg is co-moulded using proprietary materials and techniques from VestGuard and it has a potential to stop a 0.30 calibre armour-piercing round. Thus, an economical, life-saving tool is available for individuals working in the armed and police forces, as well as for VIPs, private security personnel and journalists.
Alpha Eagle has been designed and produced by Helmet Integrated Systems using Umeco’sVTM264 prepreg materials. These carbon and aramid fibre fabric prepregs can offer a superior surface finish and can be cured at low pressure. In addition, they can be applied easily and rapidly. MTM248S epoxy resin and MTM82 S2-Glass reinforced phenolic resin prepregs from the company are used to manufacture ballistic panels.
