On the market for 10 years, and not a sign of old age. Pevicoat, the BASF Coatings’ technical service concept for the coil coatings industry, is now celebrating the tenth anniversary of its market presence. It was specially developed for supplying paints directly to the coating line. As part of the Paint Management concept of BASF Coatings, Pevicoat is celebrating 10 years of its reputation for a fast pace, wide flexibility, and in turn, improved efficiency in the production of paints for coating steel and aluminum coils.
Thomas Stewing, Director of Precoatings Europe at BASF Coatings stresses the benefits: “The heart of our Paint Management concept is the Pevicoat System. It allows the coil coater to focus on his core competencies: marketing and selling the finished product.” Flexibility and high speed are the major benefits offered by the Pevicoat System. The service center can match any color and gloss within 24 hours and mix the coating in the exact quantity that is needed. This allows the customer to substantially increase the production capacities of the coil coating line and minimize inventory. The technical service unit is operated by qualified BASF Coatings' employees and should ideally be placed directly next to the coating line. These are all reasons for Pevicoat’s great success over the past 10 years.
“In my view there is no better tool to enhance our customers’ flexibility while at the same time reducing the complexity of the process as far as the customer is concerned. Basically, the customer has a small coatings factory with properly qualified staff including color lab and warehouse in his immediate neighborhood”, stresses Stewing.
At the moment, the BASF Coatings’ teams are working on further improvements to the Paint Management concept. The overall color matching process is to be automated further and more closely linked to the BASF Coatings’ color databases. According to Stewing, “The idea is to provide the customer with a range of colors comparable to that available to automotive OEMs.” Beyond this, currently BASF Coatings is pouring its energy into developing a mobile concept. This will allow the customer to become acquainted with the advantages of the Pevicoat unit without making any commitment, such as having to make any building modifications up front. After a successful test phase, the customer can select the desired modules.
