The European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA) has announced the addition of two new tours as part of the Euro PM2012 Congress & Exhibition. The new tours are to the RMS Foundation and the Institute for Medical and Analytical Technologies, University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland. The original tours are to Hartmetall and Kennametal.
The new tours will provide knowledge about the utilization of new powder metallurgy (PM) related materials for medical applications.
The RMS Foundation offers testing services in mechanical process engineering and medical and materials technology. RMS conducts research and develops new technologies by promoting both external and internal projects in process manufacturing, materials technology, implant systems, biocompatibility of surfaces and materials and biomechanics. The foundation focuses on scaffolds and bone substitutes for cartilage-tissue.
The Institute for Medical and Analytical Technologies conducts research and development in medicine, academics and industry for therapeutic systems and in vivo diagnostics. They analyze medical data and develop patient-specific solutions. As part of the tour, materialographic and surface analysis in material science will be covered. Further, an exhibition of a selective laser melting device for producing Ti and NiTi net-shaped implants is included.
The implant prototypes will also be demonstrated. The dynamic and static mechanical testing of implants which involves modification of implant surfaces, as well as a demonstration of computer technology in applications such as implants designed specifically for patients will be demonstrated.
The tours will be held at the end of the Euro PM2012 Congress & Exhibition.
