Johns Manville Acquires Industrial Insulation Group

Berkshire Hathaway company Johns Manville (JM) which manufactures building products has acquired Industrial Insulation Group (IIG). Started in 2002, IIG manufactures insulation for fireproofing, commercial and industrial applications.

The company was launched as a collaborative venture between JM and the Calsilite Group with JM holding a minority stake. The acquisition makes IIG a standalone limited liability entity wholly owned by JM. The product line of IIG augments JM’s existing offering of insulation products and equips it with the capacity to meet the insulation needs of any project.

Philippe Delouvrier, Chairman and Chief Executive of IIG will stay on in advisory capacity. JM does not plan to implement major operational changes at IIG and the existing IIG facilities at Phenix City, Alabama; Brunswick, Georgia; Fruita, Colorado; Grambling, Los Angeles and Houston Texas will be a vital part of JM’s future plans for industrial and commercial segments. The commercial mineral wool insulation line from IIG not only offers fire safety but also provides sound protection and heat control. IIG’s industrial products Sproule WR-1200 and Thermo-12 Gold calcium silicate products contain in-built corrosion inhibitors. The industrial mineral wool insulation is available in various forms such as metal mesh blankets, pre-formed pipe insulation, flexible batts, industrial boards and tank wrap. The IIG Super Firetemp board can endure temperatures greater than 1,800 ºF and is suitable for applications with fire ratings between one and four. MinWool-1200 insulation is another product in the fireproofing line that is available in various size and shapes. IIG also has a line of accessories such as finishing cement, adhesives and coatings that complement its insulation line of products.
