BASF Coatings is expanding its market presence in Africa. Starting immediately, for instance, BASF Coatings’ automotive repair products in the Glasurit® and Salcomix© refinish lines will be available in Ghana. In the capital city of Accra, as well as the metropolis of Kumasi, two dealers with BASF Coatings' partner Afrigerm Ltd have begun marketing the automotive refinish products in new subsidiaries.
“By expanding our market presence in Ghana, we are boosting BASF Coatings’ overall business activity in Africa,” says Arie Verboon, head of Export Business Development. For the launch of the business, BASF Coatings’ support is not just limited to supplying their new partners with refinishing products. From the very outset, BASF Coatings' teams have stood by them with advice and technical know-how as they implemented their business concepts. BASF Coatings will also be regularly training the painters on site. According to Verboon, “We will be offering selected products from our Glasurit® premium brand line, which meet the high demands of professional body shops, as well as the complete range of Salcomix® products, which target the traditional market with their excellent price-performance ratio. This will put us in an even more successful position on the market." The new dealers’ product range will serve as the basis for a strategically significant positioning of the Glasurit® and Salcomix® brands on the African market.
In Ghana, cars are 10 years old on average, which means that the market shows a high demand for a broad range of refinish products. At the same time, the number of registrations of new vehicles has continued to increase in recent years, in turn calling for high-quality refinishing services that will contribute to maintaining the value of the vehicle. “We’re confident that we’ll be profiting from an increased demand for professional products in the future," Verboon added.
